Jurassic Park (1993) Review

Jurassic Park is a 1993 American sci-fi adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen. This is the first Jurassic Park film franchise, based on the original 1990 novel of the same name by writer Michael Crichton, with Crichton and David Koepp as screenwriters. The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar in the Pacific Coast of Central America, near Costa Rica, where millionaire John Hammond and a group of geneticists have created a wildlife park. Many types of dinosaurs were codified. When the park's energy and security systems were inactivated, a group of park visitors, including Hammond's nephew, had to find a way to survive and escape from the dangerous island.

The Jurassic Park has won a total of more than 20 awards, including three Oscars for engineering categories such as visual effects and sound design. The film is also remembered as an important turning point in the development of CGI technology and mechanical modeling effects. The franchise's sequels include The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001), followed by a rebranding trilogy, starting with Dinosaur world (2015).

Thanks to scientific advances, it is possible to extract dinosaur DNA from the blood that mosquitoes have absorbed in amber, and successfully clone them. John Hammond opened Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar, an island near Costa Rica, in the hope of bringing dinosaurs to everyone and children. After an employee was murdered by a dinosaur, investors, represented by attorney Donald Gennaro and Dr. Ian Malcom, PhD in Mathematics, toured the park to check on safety. For more voice and persuasion, John Hammond invited Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, prehistoric plant and animal researchers. In the tour, there were two grandchildren of Mr. Hammond, Lex and Tim.

After working hours in the afternoon, all the staff boarded the ship back to the mainland, just as a tropical storm was about to enter the island, so the tour around the park did not go as planned: The dinosaurs does not appear when called. One Triceratops was sick, so Dr. Ellie left the crew and examined her. She was lucky to escape.

Dennis Nedry, a software engineer that operates the park's mechanical systems, steals dinosaur embryos and sells them for money. Under the pretext of "the memory that Linux allocates to the system is too limited, some services are turned off", he disabled a significant part of the system security. Actually, the limited memory is the processes that he installed for that malicious purpose. He turned off part of the electric fence in the park to escape. Tyrannosaurus escaped to attack the tour group, still stuck in two cars because of running out of electricity. The dinosaur kills Gennaro and seriously injures Malcom. Nedry on his way out of the island was also killed by dinosaurs. Only Dr. Grant, Lex and Tim were lucky to escape.

Dr. Sattler, after staying to examine the sick dinosaur, got in his car to the central control room. She and Mr. Muldoon go looking for the survivors, but only find Malcolm. Without knowing the password to re-activate the security system, Hammond had to power off the entire park. Arnold was assigned to restart the system, but did not return. Sattler and Muldoon, on their way to the power station, are attacked by the dinosaur Velociraptor; Muldoon is killed, but Sattler is able to activate the circuit and escape.

After a night in the park, Grant took Lex and Tim back to the sightseeing center, and he went looking for the others. The two children are attacked by the Velociraptors but are lucky to escape, meeting Grant and Sattler again. Thanks to her computer skills, Lex restored the entire electrical system on the island. The four were chased by the Velociraptor dinosaurs once again, having finally escaped. Finally, Hammond, Malcolm, Grant, Sattler, Lex and Tim boarded a helicopter to leave the island.
